What Are The Different Types Of Printers Available?
Some computer users around the house can use a printer to productive or recreational purposes while business users and owners will need better performing features in a printer. Although this point may sound logical, different people have different needs of a printer and will use it in their own preferable ways. Each type of printer is targeted at a certain market, but the right printer must be chosen based on its advantages and whether or not the disadvantages will harm productivity.
Inkjet Printers
Inkjet printers are a likely choice for people as they are fairly priced while boasting decent quality especially if a good brand is chosen. There is also a lot of variety in this category ranging from the standard monochrome printers to the feature-rich printers that support colour printing and network connectivity features. Some inkjet printers can be pricey, but are suitable for home and office use.
Dot Matrix Printers
Although dot matrix printers use very old technologies, they are still very popular in a number of industries, due to their efficiency and unique properties. Whilst they are a bit more expensive than inkjets, these printers enjoy lower printing costs per page and can still be used even when the ink is running low. They can also print continuously on continuous paper making them proficient in data logging.
Laser Printers
Laser printers are generally more expensive than their inkjet counterparts and in terms of quality, it can be tough at times to tell the difference. However, the biggest benefit that laser printers bring is the higher printer speeds. It may not be such a big deal if one or two pages are printed, but those that need to print dozens of pages will save hours of time especially if the printer needs to be used on day to day basis.
Photo Printers
Photo printers have been specially developed to print high quality photos. Some of the more expensive inkjet printers may actually print photos while costing lesser than ordinary photo printers. However, photo quality is a lot better and just about all of them support printing on photographic paper, while more expensive models may have a USB port allowing photos to be printed directly from the camera. Even more advanced models may have photo editing capabilities making them completely independent from computers.
Multifunction Printers
Multifunction printers are generally fast performing laser printers that also have functions of a scanner and sometimes a fax machine. These printers are great space-saving devices for office use as a separate scanner is no longer needed to take up a plug. In addition to individual scanning, the multifunction printer can also serve as a copying machine where the document is scanned and printed using the printer easily. Some of these devices may print in colour and usually have wired or wireless network features so multiple computers can use it.
Wide Format Printers
Wide format printers are expensive because they are basically photo printers that can support much larger paper formats such as A2, A1, A0, and B0. When choosing for a printer in this category, get the highest dpi resolution possible to get high quality prints on very large sizes.

What do all of the components of a dot a matrix printer do?
I'm doing a project on dot matrix printers. I know all the parts of it, but I don't know what all of them do. Here are the parts I need definitions for:
power supply board
power transformer
main control board
paper motor feed
home position sensor
timing belt
printhead assembly
printhead positioning motor
control panel
any help would be appreciated! thanks!
dot matrix***
power supply board - provides regulated power of different voltages for various components of printer.
power transformer - transforms input voltage to a higher or lower voltage required for the power supply to use.
main control board - controls the various components of the printer to work together in order to print and to process the incoming data into a format the printer can use
paper motor feed - usually a stepper motor that controls how fast and when the paper is advanced
home position sensor - detects when the print head/carriage is positioned in a certain location (usually to one side) so it knows where the printhead is to start print on a line
timing belt - usually used to move the printhead/carriage in a fixed and controlled motion
printhead assembly - the print mechanism that contains the pins that are moved back and forth across the paper and fired at the correct times to create characters using dots
printhead positioning motor - the motor that drives the printhead back and forth across the paper
control panel - user interface to select and display printer functions and options
Best of luck.
