Canon Copier Imageclass Mf5550 – Home Office Mfc
For a solidly built machine that offers decent performance statistics across the board, the Canon Copier ImageClass MF5550 is a viable option to consider. Offering all the standard multifunctional specifications for a printer in its class, plus a few unique innovations, the unit delivers on a level that is above average for its price range. Print and copy speeds are fast, ranking in at 19 pages per minute, and, with a full array of fax and scan options, the hardware makes a perfect centerpiece for the home office, or a welcome addition to the small business.
This laser multifunction center comes equipped with a 250 sheet front loading paper cassette and a50 sheet automatic document feeder, making its paper handling abilities sizable to any printer in its class and, with the 250 sheet total capacity tray accessible via the front of the unit, paper refills are not a problem. Along with the automatic feed trays included with the hardware, Canon has also incorporated another user friendly feature: a single toner cartridge system. Unique among its peers, the Canon Copier ImageClass MF5550 does not require a separate drum and cartridge unit, as it has combined the two into a single, easily swappable refill system.
Faxing is fast with the Canon Copier ImageClass MF5550, running smoothly at about a page every two seconds thanks to the 33.6 Kbps super G3 fax modem. The resolution, however, operates at a bare minimum of 203 X 196 dpi resolution, in fine mode. The 12 dedicated speed dial buttons are helpful and, if that’s not enough, up to 100 fax numbers can be entered for automatic dialing through a coded system. Reception memory is also fairly solid, topping out at 99 total pages worth of data storage.
The stand alone copy features are far from outstanding, but are definitely up to par for a small unit such as this. At 600 X 600 dots per inch resolution, most reproductions will come out crisp and clean, though image quality may suffer especially when making copies from source material in color, as the Canon Copier ImageClass MF5550 operates exclusively in monochrome. Resizing options are available via dedicated controls, to degrees of 50 % to 200 % in 1 % increments, and Canon has also incorporated preset reduction and enlargement rates (50%, 64%, 78%, 129%, 200%) to speed up the process. And, as usual, a toner saver mode is adjustable to aid in a reasonable reduction in laser ink consumption.
A CCD scan element produces better than usual digital images, with 1200 X 2400 dot per inch opticalresolution and interpolated of up to 9600 X 9600 dpi and, unlike many multifunctional units on the market today, color scanning is an incorporated function, and features a 48 bit internal depth. The maximum document size is also set to a legal 8.5” X 14” standard, making larger scans a possibility.
The Canon Copier imageCLASS MF5550 sits fairly firmly in the multifunctional printer designed for lighter usage category and, though it is designed for smaller output, comes complete with a spectrum of features perfect for a home office.

What printer works really great and can be refilled?
I have a printer that works great but the bad thing is that the ink cartridges cannot be refilled. I wanted to buy a new Printer/Scanner/Copier, but I'm not sure what type of printer works for refilling cartridges.

I have a Canon Pixima iP1700
not sure which carts your pixma takes, but if it has more than two carts, it CAN be refilled, and fairly easily. if it only has 2 carts, consider getting a canon that has the individual carts for each colour.
