Is all Epson ink the same? How can I find out what ink is compatible with my printer? (Epson CX8400).?
I have an "Epson Black Refill Kit" that is for use with "S020093/187/108/189/T013/T07/017/026/036/040 AND MORE!" but it doesn't have a more detailed list that says what other printers support this ink. I have a CIS installed on an Epson Stylus CX8400, and I was wondering how I can tell if this ink is compatible with my printer. Can anyone help me out?
I'm actually not looking for a cartridge, but rather bulk ink for my CIS.
No, all Epson ink is not the same. Your printer users the 69 series cartridge (T069120 for black) which is a much newer cartridge compared to the S020093 and others you've listed which are quite old and a completely different type of cartridge.
As printer technology changes so do the inks used by those printers. For example check out the Material Safety Data Sheets (linked below) released by Epson which detail the composition of the black inks in the S020093 and your T069120. You'll notice they contain different compounds in different quantities. Most likely the ink for the older cartridge will perform poorly in your newer cartridge, possibly even damaging or clogging your print head.
Good luck with your CIS, the cartridge your printer uses is basically a sealed tank which has to be filled using the negative pressure method which is very tough to emulate with a CIS. You'll also have to contend with the chip which requires a 9 pin chip resetter, otherwise it may shut down your printer completely when you've reached a predetermined page count.
