What to do with a Canon printer that never works?
I have a second bad Canon printer combo! See here: http://64.233.167.104/search?q=cache:kZ0yESZQNhsJ:www.canon.com.au/products/all_in_one_printers/laser_multifunction/imageclass_mf5750.aspx+canon+%22laser+imageclass+mf5750%22&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=1&gl=us . The warranty expired last August. It has being at repair and it never worked. What can I do to fix myself? It prints when it wants actually! Never ever buy Canon again! Please send me instructions, I am ready to learn it!
Paid 300 for that thing!
Claudia:
As a long time Computer consultant, I quickly learned that those multi-function units such as the one your purchased. (a.k.A. Cannon printer) is a pain in the *$&!&(!()&^%$ (censored) to troubleshot when they don't work right of the bat.
First option:
So, you could do a system restore and go back to an earlier time and try reinstalling the driver again. Be sure to follow the manual because some of these devices actually require that you install the driver first before connecting the printer.
Secondly option:
Call a local computer suppport person. I am assuming that this is a high price printer multi use machine. So if you pay $50-$100 for someone to get it to work for you might be cheaper than replacing it.
Thirdly,
Check the printer cable. Is it loose? Can you get another one and plug it in? Read the manuall carefully. Some of them actually have a section for troubleshooting that is someone useful.
Also, try installing it on a different computer. BUT PLEASE follow the product manual carefully. Like I said before these multi-faceted machines are very very picky and a wrong installation will give you nothing but grieve.
Finally, if the unit never worked you should be able to get the manufacture to take it back. Unless of course you never called then and you have no record of trying to get it to work. Within the first year you are coveraged by their manufacturers warranty... so assuming this is an "existing problem" they should still honer it.. but you will need to have a history of the problem not being resolved.
If you absolutely don't want anything else to do with it, and I don't blame you. Give it to Goodwill, get a receipt for tax season (it's deductable) and buy a simple printer not a "all in one" device that will give you lots of headaches.
Good luck and keep me posted.
Regards,
Cesar
