why can I not print out a black text copy using my epson dx4450, when my yellow cartrdige is empty?
I have an epson dx4450 and want to know if there is any way i can print out jus black text only when my yellow cartridge is empty?
I know it seems like the printer companies are just ripping you off by doing this (and maybe that's a good side-effect for them), but there really is a good reason for this to happen:
1. Printer uses a bit of each color to make black - it does this to keep ink flowing through the tubes and keep the nozzles from clogging up. You end up using *more* ink if you constantly have to clean the nozzles.
2. Printer won't print when one color is empty - If you try to print with no ink in one of the cartridges, it can damage the printhead if you do it enough. This can happen on any inkjet printer from any company. That's why most of them have implemented this failsafe mechanism in their printers.
